[GreenKeys] Soundcard modem with heavy metal TTY?

I don't follow the soundcard application space (particularly Windows
or DOS apps) much but am curious if an application exists that uses the
soundcard in a PC as the modem but has the serial data going in and out
the serial port of that PC to and from your real TTY rather than using
the PC's display+keyboard as a glass teletype.

Does such an app exist?

I think you can do a fairly decent modem with DSP techniques on a PC
and soundcard but the Windows display and keyboard is a lousy substitute
for a real teletype.
