David,
I may have to ask you for help. I am getting more elderly each day!
Thanks for the link.

Hi Don:
I would guess it's from a Friden Flexowriter... see

It's just a guess - been away from all this for too many years, now...

Chris,
The parts used have a Teletype "look" to them. The placement of the
parts such as springs and levers and gears all look NOT like other
manufacturers.
A couple of manufacturers based their designs on license from TTY
Corp. Also interesting... if you were to change the mechanism to
plastic instead of metal, the mechanism might look like the reader
tape device used on the Model 4310. Notice also that the paper tape
is one inch wide but only 7 levels of information are punched. WUTCo
did not believe in 8 level data. They used 7/8 inch tape and only 7
levels of information... food for thought.
My first guess was Siemens. Or perhaps a Western Union experimental
unit. Someone within the long arm of Greenkeys will recognize it
eventually.
Good luck on your treasure hunt. My hunt has gone south with the
birds. There seems to be no one left on the planet that can ID this
very early Western Union printer... The ribbon mechanism is UNDER the
base. Unless there was a hole in the table you would have to lift 60
pounds of cast iron to change the ribbon...
Best,
Don
