I'm a software guy, not a hardware guy. This worked for me when
connecting an ASR35 to the RS-232 serial port on a Dell Server that I
use to emulate an obsolete HP2000 minicomputer time sharing OS.

Not cheap by any means, but it works! Nothing blew up yet...
