Yup ... thanks guys for or the reply note:
i now notice the item that was sent to "greenkeys @ mailman. qth . net
Was blocked for a second time: this time with "Compose as Plain Text"
enabled on the AOL screen handler, via a right click when on the actual text
composition space allowed for the text message. The first time I tried sending
it, I have to admit I was in the HTML allowed mode, the second time I had
invoked the "Plain Text" toggle.
Lets see if it gets through the reflector, the third time and if it does
not, can either of you folks assist in getting the message through to the
greenkeys reflector?
I am sort of out of ideas.... I have all the contributors to the reflector
email address's ... so I could do a general bulk mail to all the reflector
subscribers, but we all could do this, and bypass the reflector, so that
begs the question of why do we have a reflector... ?

Gentlemen:
My father W0WUR, Harry Eugene Smith, of Pueblo Colorado ... is in his late
80's and is a Pearl Harbor Navy survivor, having been stationed on the Ralph
Talbot destroyer, parked across (less than 800 yds.), from the Arizona on
Sunday Dec 7th, 1941. You probably can guess the rest....
He has been a ham since 1947. My mother W0GQO is now an SK (2001)
Over the years dad's hearing has sort of gone south, probably due to the
percussion from the 8" and 5" guns on his destroyer ... as he was involved in
17 major naval engagements at sea in the Pacific theater of operations... ,
and of course we are now living with his cumulative loss of hearing. he now
does not seem to be able to hear the telephone ringing, so if any of the 9
kids he has, calls sometimes; he may not answer, which means me (at age 65)
might have to drive 18 miles to see if he is OK. He now lives alone at his
QTH of 50 years. But of the 4 kids still living in Pueblo, we make it a
point to get over daily to see if he needs anything. The real problem starts
when he does not answer the phone...
Any chance any of you older guys that worked at any Bell oriented telephone
service provider(s) during the 50' 60's and 70's could provide me and him,
with the bell system part numbers for the amplified hand set that fit any of
the non transistorized Western Electric wall or desk phones, touch tone,
i am sure you remember the ones.... heavy items, built with the real guts
either complete or simply the amplified hand set part number.
Also: any chance for the Bell system / western electric part number for the
90 VAC 20hz relay which one would find bridged across the telco copper
entering the residence, this relay would provide a contact closure for use with
the very loud horns, which you saw in industrial noisy environments when you
could not hear the standard bells provided on the desk set.... I am
remembering also, a very loud horn with relay contained within, and which picked
up 120 VAC with it's own ac cord, and then all you needed to do was run the
telco copper pair to the unit, and you had a very loud enunciator for
outdoor use, such as in a mechanical yard etc. any memories of part numbers
would help at this time. also, obviously any one who has one surplus to his
needs, can contact me... I would sure be willing to pay a fair price, or
even rent it from you.
Thanks in advance...
