[GreenKeys] ASR33 Fell over- ouch!

Hello - - -
The dashpot piston on the 33 floats on its mount. You might have a
slight misalignment of the piston or the cylinder, causing a bind
when the carriage goes to the left, and is jogged/corrected when the
next print cycle occurs, allowing the trip latch to be triggered so
as to re-engage the spacing pawls.
It might also be that the dashpot vent is misadjusted such that the
vent is not open enough so that the chamber in the dashpot becomes a
true-to-life gas-filled shock absorber, causing the carriage to
bounce a bit and has to have a wee bit of vent time before the
carriage returms to the home position.
The condition as described as being normal by another commentor can
be adjusted out. The 33 can be made to run reliably with only one
carriage return character. The line feed and lTRS character buy any
additional time needed to get the carriage home, even at 100 WPM.
I just looked into a model 32 I have (same mechanism exactly) and I
think you will only have to make a small readjustment in order to get
it to run correctly. The exact adjustment I cannot describe as there
are two or three interacting adjustments which must be correct before
the machine will work properly.
The 32/33 machines can take an amazing amount of beating and still
run. Considering thay are tantamount to a machine made of beer cans
and dental floss, they are pretty hardy.
Hope this helps. A set of manuals is a nice thing to have, and they
are reasonably available, but sometimes the prices are ghastly,
particularly on ebay.
I don't have any spares.
