Sandy,
This wire price situation may be a case of "whatever the market will
bear". Some time ago there was a fuss over genuine Western Electric
solder, of all things. Touted as made at THE plant that supplied the
famous WE company with the most wondrous solder, the stuff was sold
with claims of sonic improvement in audio equipment made with the
stuff, and outrageous prices.
I know the reason for the use of silver bearing solder in Tektronics
oscilloscopes, and also the use of very special solder in thermocouple
circuits, but I never did come to understand why the WE solder was so
desirable. My guess is that the target buying group for the WE wire
is the same as the folks who wanted that $older $o much. I do not
expect that a normal teletype loop circuit or telephone connection
would need anything but normal wire. I do understand why someone
would want to have and use wire of the right covering and colors as
the original.
Is the 256C burnishing tool meant for work on relay contacts???
