Greetings,
I am Mike Edelson in Lynchburg Va. I grew up with the sound of teletype and
the feel of greenkeys in my head.
My father worked for RCA Communications, Inc and it subsequent form, RCA
Global Communications as a teletype operator. He was stationed at their
offices FA, JFK, and UN. Now and then he would invite me to spend the day
with him. I enjoyed learning to type on the machines. Some were the model
33, model 18, model 13, etc. in ASR and KSR forms where that matters.
For some time I had a machine of my own, a KSR 33(I think that is what it
was with time and age I have forgotten so much). But with moves and lack of
space a friend did me a "favor" and tossed my machine into the dump. You may
have heard the sound of crying when I found out.
I have never forgotten copying W1AW on RTTY, copying a few other hams too.
I am enjoying copying ITTY. Whoever set that up has made me very happy.
Anyway, I am on a limited income and looking to get a machine again that I
will be able to use when I get my HF rig up and running again. I cannot seem
to find any sources that are selling machines. I know there used to be a
company in Brooklyn NY that sold machines but I don't see them listed so I
assume they are out of business.
I am also a railfan. I am 51 and unemployed. My degree in computer science
is now old enough that they won't even respond to my resume. So I have a lot
of time to "play" on the computer.
I hope this is enough of an intro to get me laughed at, or welcomed. I hope
to learn and perhaps be able to give some info here and there.
