At first I thought this to be the case as well for my HeavyMetal program,
but turns out that you can set arbitrary baud rates using the standard XP
serial driver.  It's been long enough that I don't remember what I did - I
think that there's a flag in the driver to allow variable baud rates in
addition to the preset ones.
