Addressing the last question - yes - any good quality light oil that has
a good preservative so it won't quickly gum up (oxidize) is fine.
Suitable oil is available from several sources such as Goff and others
for not a whole lot; to me the peace of mind there is worth the price
(IIRC Goff gets about $9+shipping for an 8 oz. bottle).

As you note - there are many, many opinions on steps to be taken on
getting the TG back in running shape, but I'm firmly in the camp - if it
ain't broke - time is your best ally. Of course it depends on how "bad"
each situation is (and the pictures are so small I can't see how dry
stuff looks) - but good general advice is to oil it down and let it sit
for a day or two - then oil it again. Make sure the strings, etc. are
ok- and wicking (i.e. the pad / holes are not blocked). If that seems
OK- try and rotate the generator by hand (top of flywheel towards front
of organ). If it rotates at all - then you should be well on your way -
as the new oil should flush the old in about a week. Once the TG starts
turning pretty easy - you should be able to start exercising it a little
at a time - starting with "short kicks" with the start motor, and seeing
how it goes on the run motor. Again - if it ain't broke (frozen /
scalded bushings) - time is on your side - just let the oil do it's job.

enjoy your noise maker - they're a lot of fun!
