[GreenKeys] Paper slot in the rear of the 28?

I went to begin attaching my newly acquired LPW on the rear of my 28ASR. I
realized that there is a slot on the rear of the 28 cabinet that looks like
paper could fit through it. Then I realized that the LPW also had a slot in
it that lines up with the slot in the 28?

 

Could this slot be somehow intended for paper to pass through it and be
wound up in the LPW? Here are some photos.

in this picture, I fed the paper through just to see how it looked.

 

Any idea if this was a valid paper arrangement of some kind?
