The beauty of a civilized group of individuals is the amount of "Topic
Drift" that is acceptable without someone screaming about it. ;-)

I came in kind of late on things, TRW had this CDC 3600 over in
another building that we could access with TI Silent 700 terminals.
(circa 1973-75) And over at Magnavox I got to play with the IBM
370. Moving on once again to another employer, I ended up at the
Xerox corporation in El Segundo. The entire basement was taken
up with an SDS Sigma 7 (if memory works rightly) and we were in
the midst of getting the Altos system spread around the labs. I ended
up learning how to tap thick Ethernet cable and drop links down to
the machines. (Much to the annoyance of the union electricians that
insisted that was electrical.) *laughs* while working on "something"
at Hughes Aircraft in the early '80s, I used to joke that "my personal
computer" was a VAX 780. I had the unclassified copy of the one
"inside".

And yes, from the little 8 bit boards with the push buttons and LEDs
through the Commodore, and early IBMs, I sit in amazement as to
what you can have on your desk now for under $500.
