[GreenKeys] Terminal Programs

Hi guys:

a couple of terminal-related things:

- ASCII-only: Windows Hyperterminal is a bit buggy, but does run down
to 110-baud, making it handy for talking to a model 33. I only have XP
machines, so I have no idea whether it is included with Vista or
available separately. Full of old bbs dial-up crapola.

- ASCII-only: Terminal by Bray, is a nice little emulator, but only
runs down to 300-baud. It is a single little exe file, and shows a
single pane with separate RX and TX windows and all the config params
etc. The only odd thing about is is that you need to click in the tx
window before typing, but I like this ascii terminal a lot.

- Note that ascii terminal emulators often have a 5-bit mode, but this
is NOT baudot, just truncated ascii, I believe. Also, just because a
terminal emulator has TTY in the name (eg puTTY), it does not mean it
has any baudot capability -- tty is a generic term (pardon the pun) for
an ascii terminal connection, tracing back to unix days.

- BAUDOT: TTYSIM, by Dave Ross, is a DOS COM1-only app that talks
baudot to compatible serial port chips. I have used it on XP with a
built-in serial port. I don't believe it works with any USB adapters --
same old story, since programs can't access low-level chip stuff for
baudot tweaks, IIRC. TTYSIM is quite nice if you have an available
built-in COM-1 port. http://www.hypertools.com/ttysim.zip

- BAUDOT: HeavyMetal, by Bill Buzbee, is also a great program --

- BAUDOT: RTTYArt, by Bill Bytheway is also handy, and available at
rtty.com or http://207.207.72.42/development/software/
