Thanks, Don. I hope others have played with the switch settings and can share any secrets.  

I used the "blank" connector hole to add a third MS connector from my parts bin with solder connections. The mating connector has two attached cables, one for audio input, and another for RS232 output to the PC. I just use the ST-8000A on receive.

I don't have Vista, so no personal experience, but the HAL website says something like "iffy with Vista" or close, hi.  I'd be interested in any special settings as well.  I'll share what I come up with when I get the connectors soldered up (no easy task, since I think they were meant to be crimped by a special tool, hi).
