Steve -- You can get a manual from Hal for $50. Interestingly Mark
Prather at Hal told me that there have been no updates to the manual
since 1991....there is no service manual available as there is with
the ST-8000 (still my choice over the ST-8000A; I have both). Latest
firmware is V1.9 (or 2.0 if you have one that has the diversity
option installed); latest firmware chip also available from Hal for
$50 as well.

As I've mentioned here several times before if you don't get a NOS
unit you'll probably be missing the manual and the circular
connectors for the rear panel connections. Some have modified their
back panels for other connectors, but if you want it to be plug and
play getting a NOS unit is the way to go. Most of the auction site
units I've seen lately are from DRMO sites (doesn't make 'em bad
necessarily) but it's a crapshoot for what you get with them. By the
time you shell out enough for the manual, connectors and cables the
more expensive NOS units look more and more attractive. YMMV.
