Thanks Bill!  I just printed your message and placed it
in the Operator's Manual binder.  I'll make these changes
to the "used" ST-8000A this weekend and see how things
work.  Incidentally, I am using the RS-232 out to drive the
DSRTTY and using the MIL-188 out to drive the Model
28 through the old RS2100.  Also, just using TXD from
DSRTTY to key FSK through a simple open collector
