Martin,

I use vinyl tubing, 7/16 OD, 5/16  ID, cut carefully to 7/8 inch long.  
Remove the ribbon.  Remove old  hammer and clean metal as much as possible.  
Warm the tubing piece in your  fingers.  Slide it all the way on the metal 
hammer to the bottom T with the  slight curve in the tubing facing the platen.
