I remember reading in an older issue of QST "How to" convert you transmitter
distributor into a CW Keying device. Re-wiring the contacts on the
distributor
and then using specific letter for the dot, dash, letter space and word
space.
Rather clever, I converted a T/D for myself, but I always felt kind of guity
about "ruining" it to do so.

I must have seen the same artical. Not sure where I found it, but I
installed a switch on the TD so I could send CW or RTTY. Mainly used it for
the required CW ID at the time. I had a loop of tape over the TD that held
my call and I just turned on the switch for the TD to send the cw ID.
