OK, thanks to Nick, I've gotten a minor degree in M-7000.
Don't try to operate one of these without a manual!!! I have
scanned the quick-start manual, the full manual, and the
ROM upgrade instruction manual. If anyone wants a copy
of the CD, let me know. I had intended to post it on BAMA,
but they have a statement on their website that says they only
want tube gear manuals for now.

So- the next task at hand is to upgrade the firmware in my
M-7000. I'm glad I had the manual, because if I had not, I
would still be looking for a V7 ROM chip! Now I know that
I can -NOT- use a V7 ROM in this unit! Here's the reason-
a V2 and V3 is a V1 unit with upgraded ROM. There is no
V4. A V5 is an entirely new unit with different circuits, and
the V6 and V7 are upgrades to the V5 unit. EPROMs from
a V1, V2, and V3 will not work in a V5, V6, and V7 unit,
and vice versa! So- what I know now that I need is a ROM
image of the V3 upgrade, and that's as high as I can go with
this unit.

If anyone has an M-7000 with a ROM3 EPROM chip, I'd
be in your debt if you can read the EPROM and e-mail me
the image, *OR* (bless you for this if you can), send me your
EPROM chip and let me duplicate it! I promise it will come
back safe and sound, and I'll throw you in another chip for
free just in case you ever find someone else who wants a
copy!

The V3 ROM has almost as many modes as the V7 ROM,
and more modes than the V5 and V6. (The V3 ROM is the
V7 equivalent but for older hardware.)

73, -Web (KR4WM)

P.S. Nick, your manuals and CD will go out to you on monday!
