[GreenKeys] Oiling or Greasing...

At Illinois Bell we had all the manuals we needed to look up proper
lubrication.
Some of the odd equipment like parallel to serial convertors and edge
card readers and feeders, and Dataspeed stuff
needed special home work to work on. However most of the regular
machines had a couple of simple rules:

1. Always keep lubricants away from the selector mechanism. Keep the
selector armature clean with bond paper.
2. If a surface moves on or with another surface it needs grease. If
you see a bearing it will need grease.
3. If there is a cotton wick it needs to be oiled. Never let a wick
get completely white. Keep them looking either gray or yellow with oil.
4. If there is a lubrication cap on something it needs to be either
oiled or greased... look at the manual as not all caps were for oil.
5. Watch for red colored areas. Red usually indicates rust or
corrosion or something way out of adjustment.
6. More frequent light lubrication is better than heavy lubrication
with long intervals.

Hope this helps.

Don
