There are, of course, manuals that give complete details on what to  
oil, with what lubricant, and how often.

For example I have a digital copy here of a WU publication (no. 1000-3  
is the number on the front cover) called "M28/M35 Teleprinters -  
Preventive Maintenance Routine".  It tells where to put every drop of  
oil and bit of grease.
