The big Ohmite Rheostats in the C.O. were that large but not all 25-50  
watt rheostats are that large.

My memory is straining, but I think the 10 watt ceramic rheostats I've
sen are about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.  A 50 watter would be some 5
to 6 inches in diameter.
