Many, many thanks to all of you who have offered suggestions on software
for the HAL ST-8000A. It is so very nice to know that there are still
some RTTY "fanatics," (like I am!) still out there. After a hiatus of
about 10 years (I was flying R/C airplanes using our 50mhz band) I got
back into the shack about 3 years ago - and although I love CW, and have
some other old farts I SSB with a few afternoons a week on 75M,
something was missing. And that was RTTY.
I have the expensive interface to work all the new exotic tiny bandwidth
modes, but I've never used it. Just as I view CW as "ham radio," I feel
the same way about RTTY. There is a camaraderie on true RTTY that I've
never found anywhere else.
I think it is the fact that you are "writing a letter" to the other guy
and it is a lot easier to put your true feelings in a letter than it is
using fone. Over the years I spent RTTYing I'd run into contacts from a
year earlier and it was like running into an old friend, and we'd pick
right off where we'd left off.

Thanks for allowing me into the RTTY web group, and I appreciate very
much your suggestions and advice. If I get the ST-8000A I'll let you
know how it works out.

73 to everyone,
