There is a HAL ST-8000A terminal unit listed on eBay which has 
interested me. I worked RTTY exclusively for 16 or 17 years with a 28ASR 
and all the HAL units, ST-5, ST-6, ST-6000 (which I still have.) The 
unit on eBay has no software with it, and the seller claims that he has 
sold 40 (at almost $300 each) and NOBODY has questioned the need for 
software.

This being a true terminal unit it does not use a computer's soundcard, 
it merely outputs pulses of the Mark & Space variety, which are fed into 
a computer's serial port. Without software to convert those pulses to 
text, I don't see how it can function to one's satisfaction.

Most software now available utilizes a soundcard. Is there anyone who 
still offers good old fashioned software that could work with this 
unit?  I don't find any listed using Google.

Any suggestions for an old timer who is not interested in PSK-31, 
Warbler, or any of the other popular programs?
