Gil, Ran Slayton is the narrator of the Teletype Museum tour videotape/DVD
for which you still owe me a copy of the good scans of the slides, nag
nag.

I worked under his at Teletype circa 1965. He has indeed passed on -
I don't now quite when, but it was before I left California in 1998.
Believe he has descendants still living in the Chicago area.

Someone who may be in contact with the descendants is Warren Foxwell,
whose email is or was wfoxwell at devry.edu, who lives in Park Ridge IL
and is a teacher at DeVry.

Another former employee who worked under him is Fred Mocking,
fmocking at earthlink.net living in Skokie.

There are a couple of documents of Teletype history by Ran which I
transcribed, and by now they are all over the Internet, or I could send
you copies.

"The Early Years of Teletype Development - A Patent History"
"History of Telegraphy from the Teletype Museum" which is the script
for the VCR/DVD slide show.

Being an IEEE member I was drafted to do some IEEE work while Ran was my
boss. This involved developing a list of key words and assigning key
words from the list to papers published in the IEEE Transactions on
Communication Systems during the period when Ran was editor.

I assume he probably passed on but am not sure. If you know if he still lives, I would like to establish contact again. We were very good friends at that time but lost contact when we moved to Florida.
