I'm under the impression that most AP & UPI radio station services used
Model 15s - no need for upper/lower case, paper tape or typesetting if you
are reading the copy over the air. I think I remember my dad telling me
that in the early 60s, the small Kansas newspaper that he worked at signed
up for the UPI radio station feed because it was cheaper than the newspaper
feed. It came with a Model 15, and any UPI story that they decided to run
was actually retyped on the big hot-lead Linotype machine. Later on, as the
town grew and the paper got bigger, they moved to an offset press and the AP
newspaper subscription (with Model 20s and punched tape at first, then
Extel printers sometime in the mid to late 70s.
