Larry,
The two working WUTCo. 2B strip printers I am familiar with here and
in California are both operating just fine without the polar relay and
associated resistors.
Oddly enough the only machines with the relay cleverly mounted is a
M14 Keyboard Typing Reperforator. It also has a governed motor I have
to replace.

Regarding legitimacy....there is a massive bracket holding the polar
relay
socket and the appropriate biasing resistors for the relay. I'd like to
remove all that extraneous stuff. Would that be a TTY sin? Did these
machines come without those "extras"?
