See if you can get a copy of "The New RTTY Handbook" by Byron Kretzman, 
W2JTP, 1962 edition.

It has an AFSK generator using a 12AT7 as a Hartley oscillator plus 
cathode follower.

It is a nice book to have if you are interested in tube era ham RTTY.  A 
lot of the circuits are for wide, 850Hz shift though.

There is a 1971 edition, but I do not know what is in it.
