Hi All,
If you have one of the HAL ST-8000A modems that seem to have flooded
the market, this may be of interest especially if your ST-8000A came
with the kit of mating circular connectors.
The circular connector (MS27472...) on the strange line cord that's
part of the kit along with its mate (MS-27473...) can be re-utilized
by removing the line cord and installing in the presumably empty
"Diversity" connector location. Although the female pins for the
cable mount come packaged with the connector, there is no obvious
source of male pins for the newly utilized chassis connector.
As luck would have it, I discovered the male pins I use to build up
standard D-shell type connectors (DB-9, DB25) are the correct size
for the chassis mount connector. Rather than struggling to find and
pay huge amounts for the "correct" pin, get a DB-25 with insertable
pins and just use the pins. Make sure the pins you plan to get do
indeed match the dimensions of the pins that come out of the
connector on the power cord assy.
My thought was to use the new connector to bring out a homebrew keyed
internal loop supply to make the ST-8000A stand alone "heavymetal"
compatible. Don't know if heat/space issues would allow that yet but
that's the thought. Keep in mind that the exposed pins on the
chassis connector would be hot in this situation. Not desirable but tolerable.
Regards,
