Hi Everyone,
I sure have learned a lot over the last day about phone lines. I'm very grateful to all of you who have given me advice and counsel. The consensus is running a line of 300ft from the phone jack to my telegraphing position should be no problem. A very kind list member has offered to send me enough twitsted pair line for my project for the price of postage. I'm very grateful to him for this.
Some of you had questions about how we telegraph over the phone lines using AFSK. We use old Bell 103 modems (mostly the Radio Shack DCM-3 and DCM-6 but any Bell 103 modem will work). As many of you pointed out, one side has to be set to Originate and the other is set to Answer. Our "hub" network is set to Answer so any telegraph "office" dialing in uses "Originate".
Here is a link to the circuit we use to interface to the Bell 103 modems:

I will keep everyone posted on my progress. My event is on September 11th and I'll report back how everything went. Once again, thanks to everyone who gave me input. You guys are terrific!
