Hi Kurt,

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal regulation that requires employers to allow an employee to take time off to take care of a sick family member. The law allows the employee to use vacation, sick leave and personal leave so that they will continue to be paid. I had almost a thousand hours of sick leave built up, so I used that as we do not get compensated for un-used sick leave when we quit or retire.

The FMLA is relatively new, and I am certainally glad that it was available for me to use. I
