Tony,

A normal loop consists of 120 to 150 volts with a 10 kilohm 20 watt  
resistor (adjustable) in series with the loop and selector magnets.   
Just enough voltage to get 60 ma through only the selector magnet  
resistance is not going to work.

I can't remember what explanations are where, but do go to RTTY.COM  
and get a copy of "An Introduction to RTTY" or whatever it's called.

Also, get the military manual that tells about the fundamentals of  
teletype.  Sorry, I can't point to a digital copy of that. If anyone  
can, please do.
