No distributor, just a transmitter! (tape reader)
With these units, there was a common "distributor" with multiple sets of
contacts that "multiplexed" the data of multiple tape readers into one
serial data stream that could be sent over one pair of wires.
The big "distributor" of a M14 tape reader wasn't really necessary, just a
hold-over from the mux days. The M14 tape reader read the tape holes in
parallel, and then the distributor did the parallel to serial conversion.
When I was in the Army, I was initially surprised at how small the
Kleinschmidt tape readers (TT-76, etc) were. They just read the holes in
the tape serially and sent it out.
