Lar,

I was under the impression that the governed motors ran at 1800 rpm as  
do the synchronous ones. I may well be wrong.  I await answers by  
folks who know instead of guess as I do.  (I did look among my digital  
manuals stored here for info on the governed motors, but did not find  
the speeds.

The thing I am sure of about the governed motors is that they can  
cause hash - EMI.  BUT, if you are using the test set to work on a  
machine that's in front of you, you will not likely have an HF  
receiver in the system, so the RF noise the thing generates would  
simply not be a problem.

That test set you got looks very nice.  I would expect it to come back  
to life easily and run just perfectly for a very long time.  Like the  
Tektronics 545 scope I like to use, it may become one of the most  
useful gadgets in  your shop.
