The best stuff for the plugs is Micro Mesh - 2400 or 3600 grit (use Google
to find it). This is what the audio guys would use on patch cords.

The comment regarding Brasso understood, but
as Don wrote, we made sure the plugs were clean
of all Brasso residue before putting them back in service.
Especially with the balanced TS dual plugs, we have to
pull them apart and clean out the Brasso, but over the
years, I don't recall issues with our cleaning process.
