Well, I wasn't licensed until '66, although I was active in radio in the
military a year before, as well as having learned CW, etc in the scouts.

I recieved my conditional in '66, while stationed at NAVCOMMSTA
Argentia, Nfld licensed as WA3IVX, and have kept that call ever since.

When I was home on leave in '68, I wanted to lose the conditional
status, so took the general exam in Philadelphia, at the FCC offices there.

Following my separation from the service, I got my Advanced in 1972, and
have kept that ever since. Career and Family kept me from doing any more
with the licence, except sporadic operating until the 1990's, when I was
forced to retire on disability.

Ever since then, I have been active (more or less), but have gotten into
MARS ops, and they, of course, have all been digital modes.

I do have the RATT capability now, both digital and with a M28ASR and a
Mite, using the DOVETRON, or a URA-17. I never bothered to upgrade to
Extra Class because when I was ready and had the time to upgrade, the
FCC had dropped the 20 WPM code requirement. Since they had gone to
5wpm, I felt that it wasn't worth the effort to go to a class which
didn't have the 20 CW requirement, so now I look on "Advanced" with some
pride, as "one of the last holdouts"..
