WN5HAK in May, 1972,
WB5HAK General Class, Oct 1972, Advanced Class January, 1973 or so. Never
was commercially licensed, as I went into the educational field upon
discharge from the Navy.
Started RTTY in Uncle Sam's Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club circa 1968-1972 (USS
Edson, DD-946), continued as a ham with greenkeys (Model 19 and 28's) from
General class licensing to mid 80's, then glass RTTY since. My first RTTY
QSO was with Irv Hoff, W6FFC. He was the only one that could copy the old
Twin Cities TU I had "breadboarded" allllll over the workbench that day.
Had so much RF, he said only his ST-6 would have had a chance decoding it,
hi hi. I now have two 28 ASR's awaiting restoration/use. (wife doesn't
mind the noise or smell!!) and hope to get them on the air soon. I hope
more of you get more of the old machines "on the air" so we can keep 20m
RTTY from becoming totally used by Pactor email monsters!! Would give much
more RTTY for other Greenkeyers to copy!!
73,
Don, WB5HAK
