[GreenKeys] gone for a bit -- now back

Hi folks:

Yeah, a bit off-topic.

I made it back from my exhausting annual tradeshow, the land of 103-inch
plasma displays, speakers taller than me, ground-shaking subwoofers, and
other new toys I'd like to have (my company makes AV switching systems to
drive all that good stuff). We added some music-driven lighting this year.

Here is a clip of a fun sign we made this year -- a three-foot-wide VU
meter using led strips (-22-dB to +3-dB, plus Peak). Someday I'd like to
make one with actual needles (got one almost working, using solenoids and
1/8" wooden-dowel needles, but it is quite the control-systems problem and
needs some more work to be accurate). But this one is cool too (looks
better if you click "high-quality"):

And here is a view of four corner VU-towers, which have about twenty led
clusters
(-37-dB to +3-dB, plus Peak) mounted on a eight-foot aluminum channel,
rising six feet above the truss:

All the VU drivers are run off our audio switchers, of course, so we can
crank them up or down as needed. They are actually quite accurate with
0-dB in, but it was more entertaining to push them into the red to get
people's attention.

So anyway, I am back to handle greenkeys admin stuff again.
