I've gotten very very close to 1950's Navy gray equipt (the older, slightly
darker shade like CV-89/URA-8A for instance) using Rustoleum gloss enamel
Smoke Gray spray can - 7786-830 looks like the part number. Looks good on my
model 28 too - photo at

You might look at a farm supply store such as Tractor Supply for farm
machinery paint in spray cans and buckets.  Probably not an exact
match but maybe close enough.  Someone suggested that Huskee gray is
pretty close to Western Electric.
