Kevin,
Check and see if you can turn the motor by hand. If it turns, then apply AC
power, plug the signal cable into your loop and see what happens!
(Probably should check for grease on the motor gears and oil in the felts
first!) The motor probably has three white dots on the end and a white rod
sticking out of it, indicating it is a series-governed motor. Don't mess
with the speed adjustment (white rod) unless you have a Kleinschmidt tuning
fork (180vps). The T-123 can read both the wide (Kleinschmidt) and the
narrow (Teletype) tape. An older manual number for the TT-123 is TM 11-2277.
The TT-123 was used in military "torn-tape" relay stations. I worked in one
that was housed in a 30'semi-trailer that had 12 TT-123s in it; plus 24
TT-346s (the receive half of a TT-76) and a few TT-76s & TT-98s.
Good luck & have fun,
--Duncan
