It annoys me when that happens. I had an important link about level 
crossings from my site which disappeared. Fortunately I had a copy of it 
on disc and managed to get permission from the original guy to reproduce 
it.

The worst offenders are the folks who use their college webspace to post 
stuff which then evaporates after they graduate.
