The KSM RTTY broadcast for 24 May will include text provided by Dave Freed of the CommCenter group.
The CommCenter group was formed to serve those who worked in the military at fixed-station, tactical, mobile and shipboard record message military communications centers (CommCenters) involving teletype, torn tape relay, AUTODIN, and DMS facilities, and any military record messaging services relevant to the military since 1940 and later.
Several CommCenter members have restored military RTTY (or, more properly RATT in this context). We offered the facilities of KSM so CommCenter members and others can enjoy receiving a message in correct military Communications Center format.
The CommCenter message will be in the rotation with the normal KSM press and weather broadcasts.
The KSM RTTY broadcasts will be at the usual times on the usual frequencies in the usual modes, viz:
Time: Our RTTY broadcasts usually begin at about 1100pdt ((1800Z)
Frequencies: 8433.0kc and 12631.0kc
Modes: Baudot - 170cps shift 45 baud, SITOR - 170cps shift 100 baud
As usual, K6KPH will guard 7050kc, 14050kc and 21050kc for reception reports and general calls. Since these frequencies are in the scanner along with the ship calling frequencies the best bet is to use commercial calling procedure: Send "K6KPH" repeatedly on one of the above frequencies (within the limits of station identification requirements of course) until the K6KPH operator responds with "DE". Then send your call sign and traffic.
Reception reports for KSM and K6KPH may be sent to the QSL Mistress at:
PO Box 381
Bolinas, California 94926
USA
If you would like to receive announcements like this and are not already a member of the Radiomarine email distribution list you may become a list member by sending a message to:

The KSM operator may be contacted directly via Skype when the station is on the air. The Skype name is: radio-ksm
