[GreenKeys] Dovetron Solid State Display

Finally got a chance to look into one of our Dovetron MPC-1000R-II
converters that had a dead bar-graph tuning display (other LEDs on the SSD
were OK).  The LM 3914 bar graph drivers both seem to be dead ( no
reference voltage on pin 7).  
 
It seems strange that both parts would have failed the same way.  Is this a
known problem with the Dovetron SSD?
 
Surprisingly, both Jameco & Digikey still carry this part; so no problem in
fixing it; just wondering why both failed in the same way.
