The same thing happened at one of the (earlier and notable)  
Gaithersburg MD hamfests.  The AM guys had set up an R-390A and a  
T-368 at "The AM Coral".  A normal transmission had been made but the  
needed second push on the foot switch not given.  About 15 minutes  
later someone asked why the receiver was so quiet.  Fellows on the  
other end of the QSO laughed quite a bit.

Of course, the T-368 was quite up to the somewhat continuous  
operation without a hint of fading.
