Hi: Regarding the gears: 158003 and 158004 are the
75 WPM gears for the ASR TD base. The 28H ASR TD base
is identical to an LCXB8 base. The 28H Transmitter-
Distributor is identical to an LXD4 Transmitter-
Distributor. The combination of an LXD4 TD mounted
on an LCXB8 base is what you would expect to find in
a standard Model 28 ASR set. To operate your TD and
base at 60 WPM, you need to swap out the 158003 pinion
and the 158004 gear and substitute a 158005 pinion (9T)
and a 158006 gear (44T). Together, the 158005 and the
158006 gears are known as the 158029 gear set. The
Bell System used their own designations for Teletype
components because, well, that's the way they wanted
it. A plain vanilla, friction feed, Model 28 typing
unit with no bells or whistles on it was called a 28D
typing unit by the Bell System. Teletype Corp. called
it an LP15RX/AR typing unit. Same item, different names.
When the newer style ID tags came out, there was more
room available to put more information. So, a new
LP15RX/AR typing unit would have that number on the ID
tag along with the information that it was a 28D typing
unit. The newer tags ended the confustion.
Good luck with your project.
