As early as 1970 the USAF was using TEMPEST configured model 28 ASRs
known as AN/UGC-54 as AUTODIN Mode V (mode 5) terminals in small comm
centers. The UGC-54s were configured much as you describe, and with the
whole suite of TEMPEST modifications including extensive shielding and
low level keying. If I remember correctly, many larger comm centers also
had at least one UGC-54 as a standby/backup unit in case part of the
somewhat unreliable DSTE (Digital Subscriber Terminal Equipment) failed.
I don't remember if the LESU 60 was the low-level LESU or not.
