I don't believe any apology is warranted.

Beryllium, Carbon Tetrachloride, Cadmium, Mercury, and a host of 
other things commonly encountered in electric and electronic 
apparatus are hazardous when incorrectly managed or handled.

The selenium thread has, in my mind, has served as a reminder that 
failure to think far enough into the things we do and that to NOT be 
aware or considerate of the world around us in such matters may not 
affect us personally, but can matter a hell of a lot to some other 
living beings.
