Lester,

Rust remover products containing phosphoric acid and a oil emulsifier work 
best.

I'm partial to Oakite 33 or Kano Labs Exrust.

Kano is a great company to deal with directly. I occasionally stop by their 
plant in Nashville, TN, USA to purchase.

And small parts will like being put into a heated ultrasonic cleaner - it 
will reduce the immersion time.
