Greeting to all and happy holidays.
This is my first posting on greenkeys. Please be gentle!

My interest in RTTY and the mechanical marvels began at an early age of 12, when I saw a whole roomful of the beasts (15's, 19's and 28's) at an FAA installation. By age 13 through the generosity of a local ham and MARS operator and a few dollars I acquired my first machine, a model 14, a radio and an fsk. Right away I was copying WBR70 (24/7 weather data)out of Miami for many hours each day @ 60WPM. I was hooked.

>From there, that led me from a tape printer to a page-printing model 12, then a model 15. Eventually this led me into acquiring several surplus 19" fax recorders as well. As the years went on and I moved from place to place for jobs, I was sadly forced to let my good "toys" go, one by one, to good homes.

I am not a ham operator, thus I have never done anything but copy signals. My knowledge of electronics is VERY limited. Now some 40 years later, and assuming I am living in what my be my final home, I have started re-living my childhood by re-collecting some of the toys I had years before.

Most recently...(and I publicly admit it!) I acquired the model 19 that was on ebay a few weeks ago in Green Bay, WI. It arrived in fairly good condition. I had been looking for a 19 for a while! I will need to replace most all of the electric cords, most especially those going to the power supply, and what I guess to be a rectifier.

My current day collection consists of several other machines: 28RO, 28KSR, 28 ASR, 28 compact/table top, 15 KSR and now the 19. I have also acquired several nice boat anchors R-1051B, and R-390a.

I am in hopes of getting my latest machine (the 19) up and operating. I will need some help and direction to do this. I have been on-line looking for information about the 19 and the table model I have. So far I have found documentation that shows the power supply box WITH a tube rectifier unit inside it. HOWEVER, mine is different. My power supply DOES NOT have the rectifier in it. I seem to have what appears to be some type of metal rectifier unit which is separate from the power supply. I don't see anywhere it is supposed to be attached either to the power supply or onto the cabinet/table itself. (I DO see where it appears that it should plug into the table/cabinet). IS THE UNIT MEANT TO LAY ON TOP OF THE POWER SUPPLY OR IS IT TO JUST SIT ON THE FLOOR?

I am also perplexed by the various different-sized plugs and associated receptacles on the back of the table. I assume these are to keep one from plugging the wrong cable into the wrong receptacle?
More directly, I guess I mean to clarify that (based on what a see wired on the power supply) everything is 100vAC/60 cycle line in, and beyond that the rectifier unit takes over to provide correct DC power for whatever unit T/D or perforator that requires DC? Clearly, some explanation would help me here. Again, the unit I have does not seem to match the documentation I have found on-line so far.

My final question FOR TODAY! deals with perforator tape. Through some research on this site, I think I have the following information correct, but would appreciate confirmation.

11/16" tape is for 5-level/baudot machines? 1-inch tape is for 8 level? The OILED TAPE is for keeping the pins(?) working on the perforators and T/Ds? and is preferred?

Thank you for taking the time to read my lengthy "preamble." I will attempt to be more brief with future postings/questions now that I have introduced myself.

David Rountree
