And the easiest way to eliminate long URLs is:

http://tinyurl.com/

I have "favorite", icon, that I can click on that sends the current web 
page to Tinyurl and returns the shortened version - works great.

For example, this string sent to tinyurl

http://tinyurl.com/create.php?url=http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/13538

returns this:

http://tinyurl.com/5lusut

Just insert the long URL after the "url="
