Hi Frank,
I did remember, after I hit "Send", that Forest Hill
Yard was in fact at 75th & Kedzie. I also remember the
IBM 360 at Barr Yard. We also serviced the DEX
machines used to transmit the punch card consist to
the tower and the TD 800 terminals, which were black
and about the size of a small portable TV. I still
have the video section from one of them, it's a nice
B/W composite video rig. I answered the page when
sombody hit a 10,000 volt feed line with a crane, and
crossed it to the 110 volt line for the Barr Yard main
building. As you might imagine there was lots of
smoke, and several desktop calculators were immolated.
I recall frantically trying to get new power supplies
for the TC35's only to find it was the one assembly no
one had ever anticipated replacing, and there was no
part number. C&O Baltimore sent some replacement
machines strapped on a flatbed car. They hit rain on
the way. Fun times.
I would come back, except that I now live in Dyer IN,
so it's a bit of a strech. Good luck in the election.
